For Charlie, the game, at gdaycharlie.com (also charlie.roubenmalianmemorial.org and boywoofy.com) and in the Charlie app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV, and Charlie for Apple Watch. Last updated October 31, 2026.

Short version: Charlie is a game. You don’t need an account (saving your progress with a save code, or with Apple or Google where that’s offered, is optional, and we never learn your name or email address from it), and there are no ads. We count anonymous play statistics so we know how many people play and for how long, and the website uses Google Analytics; neither is linked to your name, and we never sell your information. In the app, your progress follows you through your own iCloud, and scores go to Game Center if you use it; that’s Apple’s, and we don’t see it.

What stays on your device

Your level progress, stars, best scores, your settings and the name you last used on the leaderboard are saved on your device. We can’t see them. Clearing your browser’s site data erases them on the website; deleting the app erases them on that device.

Each web address keeps its own copy in your browser. Charlie’s home is now gdaycharlie.com; if you played at charlie.roubenmalianmemorial.org or boywoofy.com, Game Settings → From the old address on gdaycharlie.com brings that progress and those settings over in your browser: the old address’s page hands them to gdaycharlie.com’s page inside the web address itself (the part after “#”, which never reaches a server), and they’re merged in without losing anything. Nothing of it is sent to us, and the old address keeps its copy.

iCloud (the app)

If you’re signed in to iCloud, the app keeps your progress (stars, best scores, Golden Dog Bones and Diamond Dog Bones, which achievements Game Center already has) and your settings (sound, voices, music and its volume, haptics, the theme, Auto Play Mode’s speed and excitement) in iCloud’s key-value store, so they’re the same on your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. That’s stored in your own iCloud account by Apple; we can’t see it. The leaderboard name isn’t synced. To stop it, turn off iCloud for Charlie in your device’s settings.

Save progress (optional): a save code, or Apple or Google

You don’t need an account to play. If you choose to, Game Settings → Save progress keeps your progress (missions, stars and best scores, the Scrapbook, bandanas, Golden Dog Bones and Diamond Dog Bones, Free Roam Mode’s finds and which achievements Game Center already has) on our server, so it can move between the website and the app on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. There are two ways in, and one save can use both:

Either way, all we keep is a random account number for your save, the progress you save and when it was last saved, the hash of its save code or the Apple or Google account ID, and a sign-in session for each device so it stays signed in (on the website a cookie only our server can read; in the app, in the device’s keychain). No name, no email address, nothing else about you. None of it goes to Google Analytics, which only learns that someone saved or signed in and how (a save code, Apple or Google). Settings (sound, theme and so on) aren’t saved there. “Sign out everywhere” signs every device out at once. “Delete my saved progress” in Game Settings deletes your saved progress, your account number, its save code, its Apple or Google link, any Apple TV waiting to be linked to it and every session from our server at once (and, for Apple, where we can, asks Apple to end Charlie’s sign-in too; you can also end it yourself in your Apple Account’s settings under Sign in with Apple); the progress on each of your devices stays where it is.

Charlie for Apple Watch

Charlie for Apple Watch sends nothing to us or to anyone else: it has no internet connection of its own. It keeps your best Catch the treats score on the watch, and shows it on the Charlie complication if you put one on a watch face. If Save progress is open in the Charlie app on your iPhone, the iPhone passes the watch a few numbers from your progress (stars, missions, Golden and Diamond Dog Bones, the Dog Bones in Charlie’s wallet and Free Roam Mode’s finds), straight to the watch over Apple’s WatchConnectivity, never through our server; sign out on the iPhone and the watch drops them. Deleting the watch app deletes all of it.

Play together (optional)

Play together lets you walk around Free Roam Mode with other players and chat with them. It’s off until you turn it on (Game Settings → Play together, or the pause card in Free Roam Mode), and you agree to the rules below first.

While it’s on and you’re in Free Roam Mode, our server receives and passes to the other players in your room: where your dog is in the game (the place and the spot, and which way it faces), your bandana, the name you chose for playing together (please use a nickname, never your real name; you start with a random one), and the chat lines and emotes you send. Your name, your dog and your chat are shown to the other players in your room. Your network address is used for a moment to stop spam (rate limiting) and isn’t saved.

To tell your dog apart from the others, your device makes a random code the first time it connects and keeps it; the server only ever sees a scrambled version of it, your player id. If you’re signed in with Save progress, your player id comes from that account instead, so it’s the same on all your devices.

Every chat line and name goes through a filter on our server before anyone sees it: slurs, hate, sexual content, threats and personal details (phone numbers, emails, street addresses, links, social media handles) aren’t sent, swearing is shown with asterisks, and emoji are left out. We don’t keep chat: each room remembers its last 60 lines, for a day at most, only so a report can show what was said; then they’re deleted.

The rules. Be kind. No harassment, hate, slurs, threats, sexual content, or anyone’s personal details. Never share your real name or where you live. Zero tolerance: breaking the rules pauses your chat, or bans you from playing together. Three different players reporting you in a day pauses your chat for a day.

Report, block and mute. In the chat’s Players list you can report a player (with a reason and an optional note), block them (neither of you sees or hears the other any more) or mute them (their chat is hidden; their dog still walks by). A report is kept with both players’ ids and names, the reason and your note, and what the reported player said in that room in the past hour, for up to 180 days, so a person can review it; reports are read by a person, usually within 24 hours. Your blocks and mutes are kept on your device and sent to the room you join so it stops passing that player’s messages to you. To report something by email, or to ask about a report, write to support@caldrion.com.

Game Center (the app)

If you’re signed in to Game Center, the app reports your achievements and your best Survival score, longest survival time and total stars to Game Center’s leaderboards, under your Game Center name. Apple runs Game Center and shows those to other players as its settings allow; we don’t receive your Game Center name or ID. If you’re not signed in, nothing is sent.

Anonymous play statistics

To see how many people play, how often they come back and which modes they like, the game makes a random code the first time it runs and keeps it on your device. With that code it sends us: when you open the game, how long it’s on screen, which mode or level you start and whether you win, your score, whether it’s the website, the app on an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV, or the app on a Mac, the country (worked out by Cloudflare from the connection, not your exact location) and, on the website, which site linked you here. No name, email, network address, contacts or location is sent, and the code isn’t connected to the leaderboard. The code isn’t synced through iCloud: each device has its own. Clearing your browser’s site data or deleting the app makes a new code. The website also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page visits without cookies.

How you play (detailed play statistics)

To see how the game is actually played (which missions people win, lose or give up on, where they stop playing, which places they visit in Free Roam Mode, how long they watch Auto Play Mode, which settings they change, what breaks and how smoothly it runs), the game also sends us, in small batches while you play, what happens in it: which screen or menu is open; the mode, mission and place; each mission’s start and end with its time, score, stars, hearts lost and how many tries; Free Roam Mode’s destinations, odd jobs and Golden and Diamond Dog Bones found; Auto Play Mode’s days, speed and highlights; the settings you change; the name of a script error (never its message); how smoothly the game draws and how long it took to load; and the version you play (R or PG), the game’s version, the device type (the website, an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV), your language setting and the country Cloudflare sees. It uses the same random code as the play statistics above plus a random code for each sitting, and nothing else: never your name, an email, your network address, your exact location or anything you type. It isn’t used for advertising, isn’t shared and isn’t sold, and it’s kept for three months. On the website, nothing is sent if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, or if you chose Reject in the cookie banner.

Google Analytics (the website only)

The website (not the app) loads Google Analytics, which sets cookies to measure visits: the pages you view, the buttons you tap, how far you scroll, and game moments such as starting a mission, finishing it (with the score, stars and time), game over, Golden and Diamond Dog Bones found and putting a score on the Top Dogs board, plus the device and approximate location you play from. We send page addresses without the part after "?" and with anything that looks like an ID removed, and we never send the name you type for the leaderboard or anything else you type. If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Google Analytics stores nothing until you choose "Accept" in the banner; "Reject" keeps it off. Your choice is remembered in your browser. We also measure how fast pages load and respond (Core Web Vitals). When you put a score on the Top Dogs board and our server accepts it, our server tells Google Analytics so (the score and rank only, never the name, linked to the same Google Analytics cookie), and only if you’ve accepted or live where no banner is needed. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we load no Google script and our server sends Google nothing. Google Analytics keeps this data for 14 months. Google handles it as described in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Errors (the website only)

If a page of the website breaks in your browser, it tells our server what broke (the error message with numbers, links and email addresses removed, the script and line, the page address without the part after "?" or IDs, and your browser’s name). No cookies or identifiers are involved, so this runs for every visitor. The app doesn’t send these.

What we store if you use the leaderboard

Only if you choose to put a score on the Top Dogs board, we store the name you type (please use a nickname, not your full name), your score, how long the run lasted and when you sent it. The name and score are shown publicly on the board. Nothing else is attached to it.

Your network address is used for a moment to stop spam (rate limiting) and isn’t saved with your score.

Reporting a name

Anyone can tap ⚑ next to a name on the Top Dogs board to hide it and report it. Hidden names are remembered on your device only. When you report a name we store the name and a one-way scrambled code made from your network address, so each person’s report counts once; the code can’t be turned back into your address. Names that several players report are taken off the board for everyone.

Who handles the data

The game and the leaderboard run on Cloudflare, which processes requests on our behalf. The play statistics stay with Cloudflare and us. On the website, Google (Google Analytics) also receives the measurements described above; with Global Privacy Control on, or if you reject the banner, none is sent. In the app, Apple stores your iCloud data and runs Game Center, as described above. If you use Save progress, your saved progress is kept with Cloudflare, and if you sign in with Apple or Google, they confirm who you are. No advertising companies are involved, and there are no ads.

Children

Charlie isn’t made for children. The website and the app both start in the R version (crude, sweary, dark jokes; a cleaner PG version is a tap away: Game Settings → Version, on the website and in the app), and the app is rated 17+ (the App Store shows it as 18+) for its crude language and humor and Grandpa’s drinking and smoking. We don’t ask for or knowingly collect personal information from anyone. If a name on the leaderboard looks like someone’s real name, or shouldn’t be there, email us and we’ll remove it.

The old BoyWoofy site

boywoofy.com used to have accounts, a newsletter and a VIP club. Those are closed. If you had an account or subscribed and want your old data deleted, email us and we’ll delete it. Unsubscribe links in old newsletter emails still work.
